If you look at your ₱20 bill, you'd wonder if you can still buy a decent, filling and delicious meal with that amount. Well, yes, you still can!
And if you don't believe me, go and find the answer itself in Antipolo, Rizal! Chops Yang Chow Fried Rice is ready to dispel your doubts with its yummy and budget-friendly meals.
This humble stall along Martinez Street is pretty new -- it opened sometime in 2018 -- and it has already been attracting hungry patrons in search for a quick and delicious chow. It's rather an off-the-(b)eaten track place, but not too far away from the main road (which is Olivares Street, the road towards Antipolo Cathedral).
The yang chow fried rice -- or more correctly, the Yangzhou fried rice -- is one of the Chinese dishes whose popularity has spread throughout the world. It is a total meal in itself, with protein and veggies thrown in. No Chinese meal would be complete without it.
But here at Chops Yang Chow Fried Rice, you can have some more "bites" to partner your meals to further satisfy your hunger such as fried egg, fried siomai, lumpiang shanghai, chorizo dog and pork char siu.
Even with those add-ons, you will still end up having an affordable meal that's never sacrificing flavor and heft.
Plus, the fact that the rice is stir-fried in a large Chinese wok gives your yang chow fried rice an authentic flavor! We got a little peek of it ourselves while our orders were being cooked. And you have also the option to eat your meals with chopsticks (hence the name of the stall). How cool is that?
Hainanese Rice (₱15)
Yang Chow (₱29)
Java Rice (₱18)
Fried egg, fried siomai, lumpiang shanghai and chorizo dog
Pork char siu
I was surprised by the pork char siu in particular -- it was delicious and its flavors were full and a bit exotic. Who knew you'd be getting a taste of authentic Cantonese-style flavor along the streets in Antipolo? :)
The servings are more than just commensurate to the price -- the fried rice is served in heaps in each cup, so sulit na sulit talaga! Your pocket (and your growling belly) won't definitely feel short of it.
Martinez Street is a narrow alley but on this particular side it paves way to the public utility jeepneys and UV Express passenger vans bound for Metro Manila. It is quite a busy street. This store's location is good.
We were delighted at the concentration of the food shops and stalls only on this street alone -- they were standing almost close to each other. We think the residents are lucky -- hindi sila magugutom -- because there's food literally right outside their doorstep!
The next time your family or barkada is, err, egging you on for a treat (pardon the pun), no problem anymore! Bring the whole gang to Chops Yang Chow Fried Rice! Hot and fresh straight from the wok, delicious, filling and very easy on the pocket. You can eat them right at the stall or on the go.
Your hunger will be solb!
Special thanks po to sir Peewee! :)
